Hubert Yazzie..Dine' (Navajo) born on the reservation in 1949. Hubert comes from the Bitterwater clan "Todi chii nii" and is born for the Edgewater clan "Taa ba ii" clan. He grew up on a military base near Flagstaff, Arizona where his father worked for the U.S Army.
Art has been an interest of his since childhood, sitting alongside his father watching and learning as he made jewelry from silver and turquiose. His father and grandfather were well known silversmiths, grandfather Sam Yazzie - leading medicine man, has been the subject in several books on Navajos and silversmiths.
In 1967 after graduating from high school, Hubert enrolled in the Ray Vogue commercial art school in Chicago, Illinois. In 1969 upon graduating from the Art school he returned to Flagstaff and attended Northern Arizona University and continued studing art. At the end of his first year he was drafted so he joined the U.S Navy and began his 26 year military career, serving in Viet Nam with the Navy, then in 1991 during Desert Storm with the U.S Army, and the Arizona Army National Guard. In 1986 Hubert designed a new uniform shoulder patch, which is currently worn by soldiers of the Arizona Army National Guard.
Currently employed full time he dedicates what time is available to creating art which is more of a hobby.
